Merchant Tips on Accepting Checks
Be cautious of low check numbers.
Check ID and photo. If you're still not sure, ask for two forms of ID.
Place all information on the front of the check.
Phone number, Driver's license state & number.
Be cautious of checks from out of the area or state.
Check the edges of the check - if no perforations, be cautious.
Verify that the bank name and location are imprinted on the check.
Believe it or not, fraudulent checks are sometimes cashed with no bank listed
on the check!
Be impressed with the check... not the person!
Beware of purchases made too quickly.
Make sure the purchase matches the consumer.

SECRETS TO GET YOUR WEBSITE LISTED ON YAHOO
Yahoo is the Cadillac of all search
engines, but they don't make it easy for you to get listed in their vast
directory. Yahoo has a staff of live people who sift through the millions of
website submissions and determine if they are of value to the user and meet
Yahoo's own standards. It's a subjective opinion, as I've had a few sites
rejected by Yahoo, only to have a different reviewer accept them. Here are two
tips that Yahoo likes to see that a lot of people ignore...and it costs them!
a. Address & Phone Number: As obvious as it may sound, Yahoo would
prefer to see your address and phone number on the first page. If this
information is not there, at least in the first two pages, there's a good
chance you'll get nixed.
b. Localized Submission: Do not submit to Yahoo's major global site. Go
to their regional or city sites and submit there. In most cases, you'll get a
faster response than submitting on their major web page. Do expect to wait
anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months for an acceptance.

GENERATE ADDITIONAL PIZZA SALES WITH SCHOOLS
Schools are a great source of additional
revenue for your restaurant. The number of ways you can become involved are
countless. Just remember that there are more to schools than just sports and
students. Don't forget the teachers, the orchestra, the computer classes, the
library.
a. Locate the Schools
Find all the schools within a 3 mile radius of your restaurant. Once
identified, introduce yourself to the school principal and offer to assist in
fund raising activities for the school associations, PTA's, sports related
groups, music department, computer labs and more. Do not focus on sports only.
Make sure you include scholastic activity groups.
b. Free Coffee
If you're open during the mornings, offer free coffee to all teachers, before
they go to school.
c. Meeting Place
Offer your restaurant for teachers meetings, PTA meetings and other staff
events
d. Kitchen Tours
Use the empty afternoon to invite classes to your restaurant for a
kitchen/cooking tour. Give each student a gift certificate for a return visit.
e. Help Wanted
Offer internships or training programs for those students interested in
pursuing a career in the restaurant field. Offer a trophy or a scholarship to
those moving forward in this field.
f. Goodwill
Offer your restaurant as a staging medium for such fundraising efforts to
support the athletic department, the music department, the library and others.
g. Fundraising
Implement a Fundraising Day, whereby students, parents, teachers are
encouraged to dine at the restaurant, with a percentage of sales going back to
the schools.
h. Enhancements to Fundraising
During the Fundraising Day, invite the cheerleaders to dance, the band to
entertain, and the choir to sing.
i. Awards and Rewards
Give out gift certificates to students who excel in attendance.
j. Don't forget the teachers
Teachers are the most overlooked group when doing a school promotion and
they're the one's working the hardest. Get their names and put them into a
database list. Once a quarter, thank them for shaping the youth of tomorrow by
sending them a gift certificate.
5. OFFER CATERING SERVICES
Catering in the pizza business can be one of the most profitable and
easy to add-on services that will take little to no effort to do. Your
customers want it, so why not provide it. Sit down and write a basic
catering menu with fair prices and provide quality presentation and then post
a sign in your operation "LET US CATER YOUR NEXT EVENT".
Your customers will start ordering for birthdays, sweet
sixteen's, funerals, and any family or social event. If they don't know you
provide this service, they most likely won't ask. Do yourself a favor
and cater!
